Summary

  • Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto aims to bring in The Reach as the villain for a potential sequel, adding more excitement and higher stakes to the DC character's story.
  • The Reach is a formidable group in the DC Universe, possessing advanced technology and scarabs, which could lead to an epic battle between Blue Beetle and this evil empire.
  • Blue Beetle 2 may potentially feature other DCU heroes, as The Reach's possible invasion of Earth could prompt the appearance of Green Lanterns or other allies to assist Jaime in his fight.

A Blue Beetle sequel promises to be even more exciting than the first movie, as the revealed plans for the character's next adventure hinge on a more frightening villain for the DC Universe hero to face. Blue Beetle saw the debut of Xolo Maridueña's Jaime Reyes, a regular young adult who becomes bonded with Khaji-Da, an alien scarab that completely changes his life, giving him a powerful technological armor. Despite the movie being developed before James Gunn and Peter Safran became DC Studios' co-CEOs, Maridueña's Blue Beetle was confirmed to be one of the canon characters of the new DCU.
Gunn's new DC Universe starts next year with the animated Creatures Commandos series. The only other dated project for the DCU at the moment is 2025's Superman: Legacy, though several movies such as Swamp Thing and series like Booster Gold — the latter of which could include Blue Beetle — were already announced. As the first character of the new DC Universe to debut, Blue Beetle could have another solo entry as part of the upcoming DCU movies slate, and while Susan Sarandon's Victoria Kord offered him an intelligent foe and Raoul Trujillo's Carapax gave him a physical challenge, the revealed plans for Blue Beetle 2 include a more exciting villain for Jaime.
