After the release of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, a report revealed that a post-credits scene from the movie had to be changed due to a Dwayne Johnson request — with the actor also being revealed to have vetoed a Shazam appearance in Black Adam — and now Zachary Levi has responded to that report. The future for both characters at DC is looking dire, with Black Adam staying behind amid the old DC management's woes, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods heavily underperforming at the box office.
On his Instagram story (via Home of DCU), Levi responded to The Wrap's report of Johnson's Shazam veto.
Why Shazam and Black Adam have never met in the DC movies can be chalked up to Johnson himself, it seems. Levi answered with "the truth shall set you free" to the report that Johnson vetoed an appearance by Levi as Shazam in Black Adam, as well as blocked characters from the Justice Society appearing in Shazam! Fury of the Gods to recruit the hero. That role eventually went to characters from James Gunn's Peacemaker.
Later, Levi followed up with a short video explaining why he's shedding light on the scene, explaining, "…I am merely coming to the defense of the people that ought to be defended. I am coming to the defense of truth."
