Superman: Legacy just got another tease, as writer and director James Gunn offers an update on casting DC's new Superman and friends. Superman: Legacy is scheduled for a 2025 release, with the movie set to be the first major project in Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe. Ever since it was announced that former Superman star Henry Cavill would be replaced by a new actor, speculation began on who might play Clark Kent for the movie. Now, Gunn offers an update on Superman: Legacy's casting status.
On Twitter, Gunn denied a claim that casting had already begun for Superman: Legacy, revealing that DC has only started making lists of possible actors for the movie, and that it is not "limited to people in their twenties."
Gunn recently gave another Superman movie update, where the writer-director revealed he was very far into the movie's script. Because of that, even if casting for Superman: Legacy has not begun yet, it should start sooner rather than later. With a 2025 release date, the movie needs to start filming by next year, meaning that the new Superman actor might be revealed before 2023 ends.
