Warning! This article contains spoilers for Shazam! Fury of the Gods.Shazam! Fury of the Gods contains a reference to Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam, albeit in an unfortunate disregard for the latter's story or central character. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the sequel to 2019's Shazam! and once again follows Billy Batson and his siblings as the shape-shifting superhero family. With Billy and his siblings making up six of Earth's champions, the seventh missing hero was hinted at in the first film, before being fully revealed as Dwayne Johnson's Teth-Adam/Black Adam in the 2022 movie of the same name.
With the sequel to Shazam building on its predecessor in every conceivable way, from budget to scope, size, and story, it was heavily theorized that the film would continue building the connections between the Shazam family and Black Adam established in the first film. While the ending of Shazam! Fury of the Gods does contain a reference of sorts to Black Adam, it's not in the way many would expect. In fact, Shazam! 2 seemingly all but forgets the entire plot of Black Adam, outside a singular reference to one of the latter film's elements.
