Warning! This article contains spoilers for Shazam! Fury of the Gods.Shazam! Fury of the Gods almost included Batman and Superman cameos, which would have added more problems for DC's upcoming reboot. Shazam! Fury of the Gods followed up the original Shazam!'s 2019 debut, and while that movie's numbers at the box office suffered from its proximity to Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame, the sequel's poor projection has only DC to blame. Shazam! Fury of the Gods opened up to a measly $30.5 million domestically, opposite the $53.5 million domestic debut of Shazam!, and the sequel is projected to fall very short of the first movie's $366 million globally.
The very negative box office run that has kicked off for Shazam! Fury of the Gods can blame the upcoming The Flash movie's DC Universe reset. DC has been in disarray for some time, which is now on its way of being fixed by new DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. As the DC Universe will seemingly be mostly rebooted, it's possible there's a feeling that going to see the remaining movies of the old DCEU will not matter in the end. Because of that, it was good that Shazam! Fury of the Gods did not move forward with its possible Batman and Superman cameos.
